Job summary

Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the architecture and evolution of the data platform powering its human genetics, multi-omics, and imaging programs. This senior role shapes the AWS environment, pipelines, catalog, and access layers, guiding modernization and setting standards for the team.

You will work with a focused team to translate scientist questions into robust data models, enabling scalable data analysis and collaboration across research groups.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building and operating production data infrastructure.
• Deep AWS expertise (S3, IAM, EC2, Batch, Lambda, Spark).
• Strong Python and SQL for production pipelines.
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Airflow, Nextflow, Temporal, Step Functions).
• Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, containers, and observability.
• Data modelling and warehouse/lakehouse design with metadata and lineage.
• Cost governance at scale across large data stores.
• Fluency with scientific data semantics and collaboration with scientists.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical owner and architect of our AWS environment.
• Lead cost governance including budgets, tagging, rightsizing.
• Define and own developer operations for the data platform (infra as code, CI/CD, containers).
• Upgrade data lake, orchestration, metadata workflows to scale data production.
• Partner with ML and computational biology to define interfaces.
