Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Principal Data Curation Architect to lead launch and continuous improvement of data-management capabilities in a sophisticated research and classified IT environment.

You will collaborate with data owners, IT, cybersecurity, and leadership to establish practical standards, governance, and processes that make data more discoverable and reusable for researchers, mission teams, and AI/ML readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in library/information science, data science, or related field.
• 2+ years leading technology projects, data-management initiatives, or related technical work.
• Proficiency curating large structured datasets with data-quality and documentation.
• Experience establishing governance practices, processes, or operational capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects to establish and implement data-management and curation capabilities with scope, schedule, budget, and success metrics.
• Develop end-to-end data pipelines, intake, assessment, cleaning, documentation, and archiving.
• Inventory legacy and active data with owners to keep information accurate and searchable.
• Create and implement data governance roles, standards, and operating procedures.
• Train data owners and consumers on data preparation for downstream use and AI/ML readiness.
• Evaluate and implement data catalogs, metadata tools, and reporting automation in collaboration with IT.
