Job summary

Converge Resources is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of scalable data center cooling infrastructure for mission-critical facilities. You will set engineering standards, guide project teams, advise clients, and shape approaches to conventional and next-generation cooling technologies.

You will direct mechanical design reviews, coordinate with electrical, controls, architectural, and construction disciplines, and mentor junior engineers while growing a robust practice

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience designing mission-critical cooling or high-availability infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of large central plants, chilled-water distribution, air-cooled equipment, controls, and redundancy planning.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE guidance and environmental requirements for data center equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate complex mechanical systems with electrical, controls, architectural, structural, and construction teams.
  • Strong client-facing communication and technical leadership.
  • Ability to direct work across multiple projects with aggressive delivery schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Define mechanical design criteria, standards, specifications, calculations, and review procedures for data center projects.
  • Lead evaluation and design of chilled-water plants, air-cooled systems, cooling towers, pumping systems, CRAH/CRAC units, heat exchangers, and controls.
  • Develop cooling architectures meeting availability, maintainability, scalability, and phased expansion.
  • Apply N, N+1, 2N, and other redundancy strategies based on consequences of failure.
  • Coordinate heat rejection, water use, electrical demand, control sequences with other disciplines.
  • Optimize system performance using lifecycle cost, climate, load, water, energy efficiency, and risk.
  • Lead mechanical design reviews, equipment layout studies, model reviews, and commissioning planning.
  • Engage clients to define technical requirements, compare system options, and communicate trade-offs.
  • Prepare or review equipment specifications and lead evaluations for chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, and packaged systems.
  • Work with manufacturers on modular plants, cooling skids, and prefabricated assemblies.
  • Provide senior technical support during construction, start-up, testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Contribute to proposals, interviews, project estimates, and market development.
  • Mentor mechanical engineers and establish a durable technical foundation for the practice.
