Job summary

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC is seeking a Principal Linux Systems Engineer to lead complex Linux administration, hardware qualification, and delivery for nuclear utility customers. You will report to the Manager Software Systems Technology, Nuclear Fuel Technology Engineering, and work on-site in Cranberry Township, PA with a hybrid schedule.

The role requires 6+ years in Linux administration (SUSE preferred), strong problem-solving skills, and experience with NFS, RAID, BIOS/UEFI, iLO,

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Linux Administration experience (preferable SUSE).
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Demonstrated ability to independently identify, analyze and solve various system problems.
• Experience with networking concepts, disk configurations, authentication methods, and patching in Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform system administration of corporate Engineering Linux platforms and manage hardware delivery for nuclear utility customers.
• Install and configure base OS, deploy security updates, coordinate site deliveries and maintenance visits, and support Linux systems across corporate and customer environments.
• Collaborate with engineering users to deploy applications and resolve issues.

About the role:

As a Principal Linux Systems Engineer you will perform complex Linux systems administration, hardware qualification and delivery, and provide technical leadership in design, development, training, performance, and delivery of our products and services.

You will report to the Manager Software Systems Technology, Nuclear Fuel Technology Engineering and be located at Cranberry Township, PA. The position is hybrid, you will be onsite a few days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform system administration of corporate Engineering Linux platforms, as well as delivery and hardware maintenance of qualified Linux platforms to contracted nuclear utility customers.
• Installation and configuration of the base operating system, participating in the design and deployment of security updates, coordination of customer site delivery and maintenance visits, and ongoing support of Linux systems in the corporate and customer environments.
• You will collaborate with engineering users to deploy applications and resolve issues.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in the following disciplines: Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or another related field
• 6+ years of Linux Administration experience (preferable SUSE™)
• Have a mindset for independently identifying, analyzing, and efficiently solving variety of system related problems
• Practical experience with:
  • Networking and Network File Systems (NFS)
  • Disk [RAID] configuration
  • BIOS/UEFI and iLO
  • Multiple user authentication methods and access restriction
  • System patchingo
  • Linux firewall experience
  • Exhibit an enthusiasm for producing work that follow quality standards and follows defined procedures
• Business Travel Requirements:
  • Travel to domestic and international customer sites 1-2 times per month (1 to 2 full weeks) to perform technical work
  • 2 weeks of travel each month is common
  • Required periodic international travel includes:
    • China
    • Western and Eastern Europe
    • South Africa
    • Brazil
    • Although we generally avoid it, we sometimes require travel during US holidays or urgent (short notice) travel.

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $103,200 to $129,000 per year.
