Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Traffic team responsible for the networking fabric of Confluent Cloud. You will architect and deliver high-performance, scalable network data planes across AWS, Azure, and GCP, enabling multi-tenant connectivity in production environments.

You will lead a team of engineers, drive the technical roadmap, engage with cloud providers, and contribute to open-source projects.

Qualifications

12+ years of cloud infrastructure and networking experience.
Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
Experience leading a team of engineers and cross-team collaboration on large infra projects.
Proficiency in C++, Go, Python or other statically typed languages.
Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Experience building and managing Layer 7 proxies, especially cloud-native proxies like Envoy.
Bachelor’s Degree in CS or related field.

Responsibilities

Architect and deliver high-performance network data plane systems.
Drive technical initiatives in networking, cloud infrastructure, and multi-tenancy.
Lead engineers to deliver production-grade software with focus on quality and reliability.
Engage with product teams and cloud providers to solve complex problems.
Contribute to open-source projects and upstream communities.
Troubleshoot and optimize ops across Kubernetes clusters and clouds.
