Horizon’s Principal Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing and deploying cloud-based solutions with a focus on performance, security, and high availability. The responsibilities include selecting the right cloud services, implementing automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and optimizing cloud costs. The individual will lead cloud security practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, they will provide technical guidance to teams and act as an escalation point for troubleshooting. The role also emphasizes creating cloud governance, standards, and patterns to enhance operational efficiency.
HSD or GED required, Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree preferred (or equivalent work experience) in computer science, information systems, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a principal cloud engineer or similar role.
Proficiency in AWS cloud platforms. Azure & GCP cloud platform knowledge will be a plus. Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, RedHat OpenShift Container platform). Hands-on experience working on service mesh (Istio, consul, Linkerd), CNI, Observability, DevSecOps tools. Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, CloudFormation). Experience with networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, TCP, UDP, DNS, Load Balancing). Experience programming in one or more languages - python, Ruby, JavaScript, Go, Powershell, bash. Strong experience in cloud foundation, landing zone, SAS integration model.
Strong leadership and mentoring skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines. Experience with automation and orchestration tools (Jenkins, Groovy, Bitbucket).
Experience with cloud security principles and best practices. Experience with security frameworks and compliance standards (SOC 1/2, HIPAA, HiTrust, CSI, NIST).

$135,900 - $185,535. This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
