Job summary

REGENT is shaping coast‑wise transportation with the Seagliders and Viceroy programs. The Principal Software Engineer will set the software direction for avionics, define architecture, and drive certification strategies across programs.

This is a hands‑on, leadership‑leaning IC role reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. You will work across product teams and mentor engineers while delivering flight‑critical software.

Qualifications

  • Full-lifecycle RTCA DO-178C knowledge, including planning through verification and certification liaison.
  • Vehicle-level architecture ownership on at least one aircraft, eVTOL, or UAS program.
  • A certification track record: authored or owned core plans, staged authority reviews, direct authority engagement.
  • Partitioned, redundancy-managed systems expertise: scheduling, WCET, voting, health management, IPC.
  • Strong embedded C/C++ on RTOS or bare metal.
  • Deterministic avionics networking: ARINC 664/AFDX, TTP, CAN, DDS; timing budgets.
  • Systems engineering fluency: requirements decomposition, interface control, hazard/criticality flowdown.
  • Bonus: MATLAB/Simulink; DO-330/DO-331; maritime/classification exposure; remote operations

Responsibilities

  • Set software technical direction: architecture patterns, engineering standards, and certification approach for reuse across programs.
  • Own avionics software architecture: partitioning, redundancy, interfaces, timing budgets, certification approach.
  • Partner across integrated product teams: architecture compliance, interface control, design reviews with chief engineers.
  • Drive the software certification strategy: plans, processes, evidence across criticalities; lead reviews with authorities.
  • Lead software system integration: interface control across hardware/software, SIL/HIL campaigns, milestones for certification evidence.
  • Stay hands-on: design, implement, and verify flight-critical modules.
  • Establish standards and mentor: run design and code reviews; mentor senior engineers.
  • Qualify tools and supplier software: select tools, govern SOUP/COTS; supplier evidence.
  • Advise engineering leadership on software architecture, certification risk, and build-buy decisions.
