Principal / Attorney, Government Affairs | Law Firm | Washington, DC | #3626405

A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Principal or Attorney to join its Government Affairs practice in Washington, DC. This is a senior, client-facing role for an experienced government affairs professional or attorney with excellent policy judgment, and a proven ability to help clients navigate legislative, regulatory, and political challenges.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute government affairs strategies addressing legislative, regulatory, and political priorities.
  • Prepare policy memos, legislative analyses, client reports, and strategic briefings.
  • Advocate before Congress, federal agencies, and executive branch officials on behalf of clients.
  • Monitor federal legislative and regulatory developments and provide timely client updates.
  • Build and expand client relationships through strategic business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and colleagues to deliver integrated legal and government affairs solutions.
  • Represent clients at hearings, coalition meetings, stakeholder events, and other policy-related engagements.
  • Mentor junior team members while supporting the continued growth of the practice.
Requirements:
  • Five or more years of experience in government, public policy, advocacy, lobbying, or related fields.
  • Established relationships with Congressional offices and executive branch agencies preferred.
  • Familiarity working with Trump administration officials and policymakers is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated success developing business and generating new client relationships.
  • Exceptional legal writing, policy analysis, and strategic communication skills.
  • Experience navigating the federal legislative, regulatory, and political process.
  • Strong professional network within government, trade associations, or industry organizations preferred.
  • Juris Doctor required; government affairs or lobbying experience strongly valued.
Compensation:

$200,000-285,000 annually, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
