Job summary

ELOS Environmental, LLC is seeking a Lead Archaeologist - Principal Investigator to oversee cultural resource projects in a hybrid-remote setting across the Upper Midwest. You will lead authorship of technical reports, design research, and coordinate with agencies while mentoring staff and managing budgets and proposals.

The role requires extensive fieldwork experience, adherence to QA/QC standards, and strong communication skills for client interaction and report delivery.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and supervised professional experience.
• Minimum eight years of archaeology fieldwork with supervisory/management experience.
• Must meet Professional Qualification Standards or equivalent.
• Eligible to be listed as Principal Investigator with appropriate permits.
• Experience holding or pursuing BLM permits in target regions preferred.
• Strong knowledge of historic preservation laws (NEPA/NHPA/ARPA/NAGPRA).
• Excellent technical writing, editing, and English grammar skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, NEPA, and state laws governing cultural resources.
• Lead authorship of technical reports, research designs, and documentation.
• Oversee fieldwork (Phase I-III) and monitoring activities.
• Develop proposals, background research, and agency coordination.
• Manage project budgets and supervision of staff on projects.
• Prepare high-quality scientific site forms and reports.
• Direct client interactions and maintain quality control across deliverables.
