We are looking for a Principal Applied AI Engineer to join the NEXT arm of Microsoft Security AI (MSECAI), where we build the next generation products for security. In the 18 months since our organization’s founding, we have driven the research behind Microsoft Security Copilot and a suite of both foundational and specialized AI models. **Responsibilities**

+ Ideate and build AI-based next-generation cybersecurity products.

+ Service delivery in collaboration with Applied Researchers and product teams Design and build secure and robust ML- and GenAI-based cloud services Architect and implement scalable systems for AIOps for production environments

+ Participate in the AI experimentation and observation platform development for continuously improvement of AI models and experiences

+ Collaborate with senior technical staff of Copilot for Security and other Microsoft Security products

**Qualifications**

**Required/Minimum Qualifications**

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ ORMaster's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ ORDoctorate in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in Python

+ 3+ years of experience in working with LLMs (Large Language Models) and NLP (Natural Language Processing)

**Other Requirements:**

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

**Additional or Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ ORDoctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ Experience in SecDevOps and MLOps/AIOps

+ Experience in shipping at least 1 large scale ML/AI-based services or applications preferably in the security domain on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.)

+ Experience with OSS GenAI (agent-based) frameworks

+ 5+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).

+ 2+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.

+ 5+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).

+ 3+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.

+ 3+ years experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.

Applied Sciences IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
