Job summary

Bloom Energy seeks a Principal Application Engineer to support strategic energy projects in the US. The role may be based in San Jose, CA; Newark, DE; or Houston, TX, with up to 30% travel. The base salary varies by location and is enhanced by a sales incentive plan and equity.

You will lead complex technical sales activities, translate customer needs into robust distributed generation solutions, and collaborate with engineering and sales teams to drive successful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • 10–15 years of customer-facing and technical support experience in the power systems and energy industry.
  • 10+ years of experience in power generation technologies such as gas turbines, reciprocating engines, battery storage, wind and solar, or fuel cell applications.
  • Knowledge of NEC, IBC, IEEE standards and regulations.
  • Background in energy-related technology and solutions.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Professional Engineering License is favorable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical sales activities and develop customer relationships and requirements for distributed generation solutions.
  • Provide in‑depth product and industry knowledge through technical sales presentations and detailed customer engagements.
  • Develop strategic requirements documentation and product solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Create conceptual designs and implement specifications to demonstrate the feasibility of Bloom’s solutions.
  • Work independently in a competitive sales environment, eliminating technical barriers for complex energy projects.
  • Represent a highly technical product or service in the power industry, managing the internal and external pre‑sales solution development process.
  • Support quota attainment by providing technical expertise directly to customers in alignment with sales objectives.
  • Define customer requirements and establish product specifications for customer solutions.
  • Produce project‑specific contract inputs as required.
  • Provide technical support to the Sales team with bid and proposal writing.
  • Understand and overcome customer technical objections, securing approval to proceed with key project parameters.
  • Deliver technical feedback based on customer requirements to engineering and product management.
  • Define the scope of work during the pre‑sales process, leveraging internal and external resources to implement electrical, mechanical, and civil infrastructure connections between the Bloom Energy system, customer site, and utility.
  • Travel up to 30% as needed to support sales objectives.

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Professional Engineering License is favorable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Competitive base salary (location varies) with a range of $137,600.00 – $206,400.00.
