NetApp is seeking a Principal Engineer in its AI BU to act as a technical authority, architecting cross‑team initiatives at the intersection of storage, data, and AI. You will drive design decisions while remaining hands‑on with production code.

You will translate business priorities into technical roadmaps, mentor engineers, and champion best practices in system design, observability, and reliability. You’ll present trade‑offs to executives and influence architecture across teams.

Qualificações

• 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Technical lead or architect on multi-team initiatives.
• Cloud-native architecture experience on AWS/Azure/GCP.
• Experience with agentic engineering and frontier models.
• Distributed Storage Systems experience.
• Ability to influence engineering direction without formal authority.
• Strong system design for highly available, low-latency services.
• Excellent communication; able to present trade-offs to engineers and executives.
• Experience with data processing, analytics, and AI/ML systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise technical quality across teams.
• Experience building CI/CD infrastructure for large-scale deployments.

Responsabilidades

• Architect and lead end-to-end designs across AI initiatives.
• Set technical direction and standards across engineering teams.
• Write design docs/RFCs and align stakeholders.
• Stay hands-on: code, review critical designs, and unblock issues.
• Translate business priorities into technical roadmaps and architecture decisions.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar without formal authority.
• Identify and resolve systemic risks in architecture and reliability.
• Represent AI BU engineering in cross-functional/executive reviews.
