What you will be doing

The Principal AI Engineer will be a key technical leader responsible for designing and implementing the platform and architecture that support our AI and ML modeling capabilities, as well as their integration with applications and data pipelines. This role involves building and scaling multiple models for retail platforms. The ideal candidate is a visionary thinker with deep technical expertise and a strategic mindset, capable of driving the evolution of our data science infrastructure and methodologies.

The position is based in Pleasanton, CA.

Main responsibilities

1. Define and implement the technical roadmap for AI, including selecting and deploying appropriate tools and frameworks.
2. Develop and maintain an AI experimentation and observation platform for continuous improvement of AI models and experiences.
3. Build and lead a high-performing AI team, mentoring junior engineers.
4. Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to develop and maintain robust data pipelines.
5. Design scalable, reliable, and secure AI infrastructure / AIOps.
6. Lead the development and deployment of innovative AI solutions across various business domains.
7. Partner with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize AI opportunities.
8. Stay updated with the latest AI research and translate advancements into practical applications.
9. Promote the ethical and responsible use of AI within the organization.
10. Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both technical and non-technical.

The salary range is $182,400 to $247,800 annually, with starting salary varying based on location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.

What we are looking for

• Experience deploying large-scale AI systems into production.
• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related fields.
• 10+ years of experience in AI, Data Science, and Machine Learning.
• Strong academic credentials with publications in top-tier journals and conferences.
• Expertise in areas such as deep learning, information retrieval, knowledge graphs, natural language processing, or optimization.
• Experience building large-scale AI models and systems.
• Experience with large language models and deep neural networks.
• Ability to collaborate with engineering teams to set technical directions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
