Job summary

Amazon is hiring a Principal Applied Scientist to own the scientific vision across Agentic WorkSpaces. Lead evaluation, benchmarks, and cross-team alignment for enterprise-grade AI agents and human-AI teams.

You will shape research directions, design robust experiments, and contribute to external ML communities. This role requires leadership across multiple teams and a track record of delivering ambitious research from concept to production.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field or a Master’s with equivalent applied research experience.
• 10+ years of applied science experience, including 8+ years applying ML to real-world products at scale.
• Experience setting research direction and technical strategy across multiple teams and organizations.
• Deep expertise in modern ML, including LLMs/foundation models, evaluation methodology, and experimental design.
• Track record of delivering complex, ambiguous research initiatives from concept through production in enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

• Set the long-term scientific vision and multi-year research roadmap across Agentic WorkSpaces.
• Frame and deliver solutions to foundational challenges in perception, reasoning, evaluation, and human-AI collaboration.
• Own evaluation and measurement foundation including benchmarks, datasets, and metrics.
• Drive cross-organizational scientific alignment across partner teams and product portfolio.
• Deliver measurable business impact through higher task accuracy and lower cost-per-action.
• Raise the scientific bar with rigorous experimentation and reproducibility; mentor senior scientists.
• Advance state-of-the-art via publications, patents, and open-source contributions.
