Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to set the technical direction for our enterprise AI platform. You will own the architecture of the lakehouse, knowledge graph, retrieval systems, and natural-language interfaces used by engineering, manufacturing, and mission teams.

You will stay hands-on, writing production code and proving out the hard parts yourself, while guiding other engineers across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production software.
• 7+ years cross‑team architecture ownership or technical leadership.
• Delivered production LLM, RAG, or agentic AI systems end to end.
• Built and operated an enterprise data platform (lakehouse) with metadata-driven ingestion.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and roadmap for Blue Origin's agentic AI platform.
• Stay hands-on across the full stack—write production code and prove out hard parts.
• Design reusable APIs and MCPs to enable other teams to reuse data and AI foundations.
• Set architecture direction across the platform portfolio (ingestion, knowledge graph, search, NLU to SQL).
• Mentor senior/mid engineers and uphold standards and reference implementations.
• Establish AI evaluation and observability practices (latency, cost, accuracy, provenance).
• Ensure AI outputs are defensible with source-grounded evidence and provenance.
