Position Purpose

The Principal Advisory Director for CIO Advisory creates and delivers client-driven, project-based, practical research and advisory that helps IT leaders drive measurable results in their organizations. They are responsible for the CIO practice’s research projects and advisory operations primarily in the domains of Compliance, Risk & Governance, Service Management, Organizational Design, Operating Models, and Modernization.

The Principal Advisory Director will maintain an active pulse on the needs of members as well as industry development, deliver exceptional service via calls and workshops, collaborate with others across the Research department and organization, and ensure they deliver high-quality CIO research and solutions.

What you will do, includes, but is not limited to:

Advisory Calls with Clients
  • Leading calls with Members to provide an overview of Info-Tech’s published research.
  • Listening to the information provided by Members and recommending ways they can use the research to work through a challenge or project, while ensuring their key initiative plans fulfill their strategic mandates.
  • Assist in scoping member concerns and directing them to relevant research as well as identifying gaps in research products.
Facilitate Workshops
  • Properly scope out the workshop effort with clients over the phone a few weeks ahead of online or on-site workshop delivery.
  • Assist in developing the Workshop Engagement Document to formalize the objective, agenda, and deliverables of workshops.
  • Using Info-Tech’s published research to facilitate a series of activities with Members and their teams.
  • Throughout the workshop, collect activity outputs from participants and compile them into a polished final deliverable for the Member at the end of the engagement.
  • Identify further areas of advisory assistance required by clients after the workshop.
Research
  • Interviewing Subject Matter Experts, finding and reading relevant literature in your assigned topic, and using the information gathered to generate insights.
  • Cultivating insights into a framework or methodology and building supporting tools and resources for publication on our website and use by Info-Tech Members.
  • Keep a pulse on what’s happening in the industry around your areas of expertise including upcoming trends and best practices, in part, to assist in your contribution of ideas to the research agenda.
  • Contribute to research-producing teams by identifying technology trends, proposing research topics, and providing input on research projects assigned to others.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and feedback to other departments across the Research Division and to partnering Divisions outside of Research, like Sales, Public Relations & Marketing, etc., teams as needed.
  • Design and build high-quality keynote/other presentations, and successfully deliver presentations as needed.

To be successful, you will need:

Education and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree required (business or technology preferred). An Engineering, MA, MBA, or MSc beneficial.
  • Professional certifications in Service Management, organizational design, risk and governance frameworks, or other related disciplines considered valuable.
  • Practical experience of 10+ years working in one or more of the following domains necessary:
  • Service Management and Service Strategy
  • Operating model and organizational design
  • Risk, governance, and compliance
  • Modernization
  • Practical experience implementing major organizational change or transformation projects.
  • Presentation and facilitation experience demonstrated through prior client-facing workshops, training sessions, and consulting engagements.
  • History of strong relationship-building and management skills. Experience gaining and maintaining trusted advisor status with senior management and C-level executives.
