Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services is seeking a Principal in Woodridge, IL to lead quality services for youth placed at Meridian North. The role requires coordinating curriculum, instructional leadership, and overall school operations with a focus on students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage school administrative functions (facilities, budgets, staffing) to maintain safe, efficient operations.
  • Facilitate communication among staff, students, and parents; recommend personnel to Director for employment.
  • Collaborate with District staff to develop curriculum, implement programs, and set behavioral expectations.
  • Assist staff in developing IEPs and education components of Abraxas Treatment Plan for Meridian North placements.
  • Coordinate monitoring of student progress per individual educational plans.

What You’ll Do

As a Principal, will interact with district administrators, teachers, students, and care providers to support and facilitate the maintenance and development of quality services to for youth placed at Meridian North. The Principal shall possess specialized knowledge and experienced in serving a broad spectrum of youth with disabilities. The Principal shall maintain high student achievement by providing curriculum and instructional leadership, which is accomplished by maintaining overall school site/program operations.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Manage school administrative functions (e.g. facility maintenance, budgets, staffing, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within State and Corporate guidelines
  • Facilitate communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts; select personnel for the purpose of recommending them to the Director for employment
  • Collaborate with District administrative staff to facilitate program development, curriculum implementation and behavioral expectations.

Program Support and Development:

  • Assist staff in the development of IEP’s and the education portion of the Abraxas Treatment Plan for youth recommended to the Meridian North for placement.
  • Facilitate program development for the purpose of increasing service utilization and curriculum access to students placed at the Meridian North.

Student Support and Supervision:

  • Develop and coordinate procedures for monitoring and evaluating student progress consistent with individual educational plans
  • Identify at risk children and families and refer them to the proper agencies for services
  • Provide direct services to individuals with exceptional needs on a consultant basis; provide coordination of transition and collaboration with regular education of Meridian North students
  • Process student disciplinary actions, personnel actions and/or related matters for the purpose of documenting such actions and adhering to district policies and/or corporate requirements.

Staff Support and Supervision:

  • Plan and coordinate in-service programs on an on-going basis to ensure that the staff has appropriate expertise to meet the unique needs of exceptional students
  • Provide assistance to teachers in adaptation of core curriculum to meet needs of Meridian North students
  • Evaluate personnel for the purpose of ensuring standards are achieved and performance is maximized
  • Supervise instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the school curriculum.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Special Education License LBS I

Preferred

  • Advanced training and related experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs preferred.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and regulations as they relate to special education; existing resources and materials available for use in Special Education curriculum, including current trends in technology for education; teacher-oriented educational assessment tools and techniques; alternative learning strategies; behavioral/ emotional intervention strategies; implementation of the common core standards.
  • Skills and Ability to structure classroom environments and resources; communicate and coordinate effectively with individuals and groups in both oral and written form; manage and supervise selection, assignment, evaluation of certificated and classified staff; work accurately under time constraints; prepare professionally written correspondence.
  • The ability and understanding to develop, monitor and administer assigned program budgets.

Other Qualifications:

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Must have a valid Driver's License
  • Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
  • Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
  • Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
