Job summary

Citi’s Prime Brokerage Tech Development Lead (SVP) role blends hands-on coding with strategic technical direction to design and deliver core Prime Brokerage components using Java and Kotlin.

Based in New York with a hybrid work option, you will mentor engineers, raise engineering standards, and partner with product and business teams to enable scalable, secure, and observable systems across the Citi technology platform.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Own, design, and build core components of the Prime Brokerage platform in Kotlin/Java.
• Lead planning and estimation with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership to agile teams and mentor developers.
• Drive engineering quality via SDLC and DevOps practices including DORA metrics.
• Ensure production stability end to end and manage incidents to resolution.
• Collaborate with product partners and drive AI tooling adoption where value is delivered.

Prime Brokerage Technology provides solutions that underpin the operations of our clients and form the foundation of our Prime Finance business. This is an area of great opportunity and a major growth target for Citi, with technology providing the key to unlock this potential.

The role

This is a hands‑on (programming) role that sets technical direction, owns delivery outcomes, and takes accountability for application ownership while raising engineering standards across the team. It pairs a broad platform view with close, day‑to‑day engagement in real technical challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Own, design, and build core components of the Prime Brokerage platform in Kotlin/Java.
• Shape complex business requirements into clear technical direction and maintainable solutions.
• Lead planning and estimation with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Stay hands‑on and lead by example, personally contributing to changes delivered to production.
• Level up applications to high engineering standards, focusing on shift‑left testing, resiliency, security, scalability, and observability.
• Provide technical leadership to agile teams, mentoring developers and raising the engineering quality bar.
• Champion quality and continuous improvement in SDLC and DevOps, using metrics like DORA.
• Identify and remove friction in the development processes to improve developer productivity.
• Drive pragmatic adoption of AI engineering tooling, embedded in workflows where real value is delivered into production.
• Own production stability end to end, staying with incidents through to genuine remediation.
• Invest in people and culture, mentoring engineers and contributing to hiring.
• Keep project and technical documentation clear, current, and useful.

Technical Experience required

• Java & Test-Driven Development are essential.
• Experience designing and developing robust and resilient event-driven architectures.
• Experience in any number of additional technologies (listed below) is advantageous:
  • Kotlin
  • Messaging Technologies (Kafka, Solace, TIBCO)
  • Database / Data Store / Data Query Technologies (SQL Server, Mongo, S3)
  • Cloud Technologies (Kubernetes, Open Shift)
  • Observability Technologies (Open Telemetry, ELK, Grafana)
  • Secrets Management platforms (HashiCorp Vault, CyberArk)
  • AI-assisted development tooling (GitHub Copilot, Devin)

Skills and experience required:

• Proven experience in software engineering.
• Deep expertise in systems analysis and programming.
• Proven delivery of complex technical initiatives.
• Comfortable adjusting priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication.
• Bachelor's or University degree, or equivalent experience.
