Job summary

Texas Biomedical Research Institute is seeking a Veterinary Research Technician to support research, clinical, and surgical procedures with non-human primates in ABSL2 and ABSL3 facilities. The role involves animal observations, clinical care, anesthesia, specimen handling, and data documentation.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma with 2+ years of relevant experience, a valid driver's license, and knowledge of SOPs. AALAS certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 2 years of job-specific experience with non-human primates.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Working knowledge of all applicable SOPs.
• Preferred: AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, or LATG).
• Availability to work Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm with weekend/holiday rotation.

Responsibilities

• Perform observations of laboratory non-human primates and provide husbandry care.
• Review clinical history and perform basic health checks.
• Triages and aids in the treatment of animals under Veterinarian direction.
• Use ABSL2/ABSL3 procedures to clean and sanitize animal areas.
• Prepare, induce, maintain, recover anesthesia events including IV catheterization and intubation.
• Collect, label, and distribute biological specimens and tissues from non-human primates.
• Maintain and document equipment conditions and data in the animal database.
• Prepare non-human primates for pathologic evaluation and necropsy assistance.
