Job summary

The Washington International School is seeking a Primary School Playground Monitor to supervise students on the playground and assist with other tasks. The role runs daily from 9:30 AM to 3:15 PM (3.75 hours).

You will work with the PS Principal and Assistants to maintain a safe, inclusive outdoor environment and respond quickly to student needs. Responsibilities include supervising play, enforcing rules, encouraging inclusive activities, accompanying injured students to the nurse, and

Qualifications

• Experience working with children from Preschool to grade 5 in outdoor programs preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with staff to supervise outdoor activities.
• Strong communication with children and adults, in English.
• Self-motivation and responsibility with minimal supervision.
• French and/or Spanish language ability is a plus.

Job Summary

Reporting to the PS Principal and Assistant Principals, the Primary School Playground Monitor is responsible for supervision of students on the playground and assisting with other tasks. Daily hours are between 9:30AM-3:15PM - daily 3.75 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Supervise students on the playground with a careful eye toward safe and inclusive play.


• 2. Maintain an orderly playground environment, enforcing school rules and appropriate consequences while on the playground.


• 3. Employ a variety of strategies in order to encourage inclusive play.


• 4. Bring students to the nurse when they are hurt.


• 5. Report any student issues to teachers as necessary.


• 6. Communicate in a timely manner about any issues or concerns.

Qualifications

• ? Experience working with children from Preschool to grade 5 in an outdoor academic, after school, or summer program is preferred


• ? Physical ability to perform required tasks and work outdoors in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)


• ? Collaboration skills


• ? Effective communicator with children and adults


• ? Self-motivated, responsible and able to work with minimal supervision


• ? Ability to speak French and/or Spanish a plus

Working Conditions

Will be working outside most of the time on the playground. It is often loud.

Physical Requirements

speech at reasonable levels, outdoors and on the telephone; to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly, outdoors and on the telephone; to exhibit physical agility to lift up to 35 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
