Job summary

Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA is seeking a Part-time Primary Learning Specialist to provide direct student support, academic coordination, and executive functioning coaching within Bucknell's Comprehensive EF Coaching Program. This on-campus role runs August through May 31, up to 28 hours per week, with in-person meetings and the weekly facilitated session.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree required.
  • Four years of professional experience in executive functioning challenges, learning disabilities, or ADHD in academic environment.
  • Advanced understanding of executive functioning coaching models; familiarity with ADA accommodations and postsecondary student support structures.

Responsibilities

  • Executive Functioning Support: conduct intake, develop study schedules, lead weekly session, oversee drop-in space.
  • Content Review: monitor assignments, readings, note-taking and ensure students can articulate material.
  • Demonstration of Content Knowledge: track participation and communicate with faculty on involvement and performance.
  • Faculty Engagement: coordinate bi-weekly meetings and coach students for productive office hours and class questions.
  • Syllabus and Assignment Planning: review syllabi, create assignment calendars, coordinate with OAR for accommodations.
  • Work Plan Development: guide detailed work plans with dates and time estimates, monitor progress and completion.

Job Summary

The Primary Learning Specialist (PLS) is responsible for the directsupport, academic coordination, and executive functioningdevelopment of assigned students participating in Bucknell'sComprehensive EF Coaching Program Pilot. The PLS serves as thestudents central academic support figure, coordinating closely withother Learning Specialists, faculty, OAR staff, academic advisors,the Counseling Center, and other university offices.

This position emphasizes proactive academic planning, skilldevelopment, consistent engagement with academic content, andcultivating strong faculty-student relationships. The PLS providesregular individualized support while maintaining comprehensiveprogress documentation and accountability measures throughout theacademic term.

  • Reports to the Director, Office of Accessibility Resources(OAR)
Work Setting/Schedule
  • This is an on campus, student facing position
  • All meetings, planning sessions, and study support are expectedto take in person, barring unforeseen circumstances that requirevirtual sessions
  • This role will run from August - May 31st, working up to 28hours per week, Monday - Friday during the hours of 9am-5pm.This is a one year appointment, renewal is subject to theavailability of funds and satisfactory performance.
What You Will Do
  • Executive Functioning Support: Responsibilities involvestudent academic support and coaching. This includes an initialintake interview to understand each student's academic background,strengths, challenges, and interests. A key part of the support ishelping students create realistic study schedules and patterns. Therole consists of leading one weekly facilitated session andsubsequently overseeing the drop-in Facilitated Study Space.
  • Content Review: Monitor and support students incompleting their academic tasks, including readings, assignments,and note-taking. A key part of this support involves ensuringstudents can explain course material during sessions to boost theirretention and comprehension.
  • Demonstration of Content Knowledge: Ensuring studentengagement and performance in both formal (exams, quizzes) andinformal (participation, discussions) assessments. It also involvestracking student class participation and communicating with facultyregarding student involvement and performance.
  • Faculty Engagement: Facilitating and tracking bi-weeklystudent-faculty meetings and coaching students to preparemeaningful questions for office hours and class.
  • Syllabus and Assignment Planning: Reviewing syllabi andmajor assignments with students, creating an assignment calendarhighlighting key academic periods, and coordinating with OAR foradditional accommodations.
  • Work Plan Development: Guiding students in creatingdetailed assignment work plans with dates, tasks, and timeestimates, then monitoring their weekly progress and validatingcompletion.
  • Grade & Performance Tracking: Tracking all submittedwork, grades, and participation, monitoring learning managementsystems for feedback and grade trends, and setting/revisingperformance benchmarks in consultation with students andfaculty.
  • Accountability & Team Coordination: Establishingclear expectations with students and coordinating a monthly reviewteam comprising the student's Dean, Academic Advisor, OAR Director,a Counseling Center staff member, and another Learning Specialist.It also includes recommending and supporting ongoing therapeuticrelationships for student well-being.
  • Progress Reporting: Generating and sharing weeklyprogress reports (including session summaries, work plan updates,grade tracking, faculty engagement, and general observations) withstudents, OAR, and other stakeholders (e.g., advisor, parent,Dean), starting after the first week of classes. Gathering &maintaining data will be an important part of the role.
  • Non Essential Functions: The job description's listedresponsibilities and tasks are not exhaustive, additionalnon-essential tasks and responsibilities may be assigned asneeded.

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Professional Work Experience: Four years of experience inexecutive functioning challenges, learning disabilities, or ADHD inan academic environment
  • Knowledge Areas and Skills: Advanced understanding of executivefunction coaching models; familiarity with ADA accommodations andpostsecondary student support structures.
Preferred, but not Required
  • Professional Certification or License: Credentialed coachingcertifications (e.g., ICF, ADHD-CCSP)
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences orexecutive functioning challenges

  • Ability to sit for extended periods; frequent in-personmeetings; Able to travel between facilities.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate'scredentials compared to the qualifications of the position,internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
