About the Company

We are looking for a skilled physician to provide Primary Care services for our service heroes and VA beneficiaries at our new state-of-the-art facility at the Lexington Park Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in St. Mary’s County, Maryland. About the Role

The focus of a Primary Care clinician at the Lexington Park CBOC is the provision of longitudinal outpatient medical and preventive health care for Veteran patients in a manner that reflects excellent clinical judgment, medical knowledge, clinical skills (medical interviewing, physical examination, and procedural skills), humanistic qualities and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patients for acute illnesses and determine whether patients need to be admitted to the hospital or managed in the outpatient setting.
  • Manages chronic disease.
  • Provides clinical guidance over the phone, by Secure Messaging and through the mail.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of medical assessments and observations.
  • Responsible for supervising and teaching medical residents and students.
  • May be required to oversee mid-level practitioners, such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants.
  • Establishes inter-personal and intra-departmental relationships to enhance optimal patient care.
  • Demonstrates competent and effective oral and written communication.
  • Provides appropriate patient/family member teaching and education.
  • Evaluates effectiveness and level of patient/family member understanding of teaching provider.
  • Utilizes the CPRS computer software/program for entering and signing of medical orders such as laboratory studies, radiological studies, etc.
  • Maintains familiarity and compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and procedures, ensuring the use of antiseptic methods of all in-clinic procedures.
  • Ensures a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.

Qualifications

  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory.
  • Must be full-time with board certification.

Required Skills

  • Familiarity with personal computers and adequate keyboard skills to perform all data entry (e.g., progress notes and physician orders, history and physicals, discharge summaries).
  • Ability to navigate through computer programs.

Preferred Skills

  • Woman’s Health experience is a plus.

Pay range and compensation package

  • Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
  • 50-55 days of annual paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME).
  • Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
  • Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
  • Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.

Relocation/Recruitment may be authorized for highly qualified applicants. This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP Participants are ineligible to apply for the program.
