Job description

The Montessori School of Northern Virginia is a non-profit school providing authentic Montessori education. Our learning environment is designed to directly benefit students' social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. MSNVis looking for an energetic Primary Assistant (ages 3-5) for our Sleepy Hollow Campus.

The Primary Assistant supports the work of the Lead Teacher by helping to guide the children's activities in accordance with Montessori philosophy and school policies. The Assistant is responsible for supporting the Lead Teacher in preparing and maintaining the environment where the Montessori approach to education is implemented.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

• Carry out plans and directives of the Lead Teacher
• Respond to the needs of the children respectfully, fostering their independence and self-reliance
• Bring expertise and creative energy to the classroom
• Work with individual children and small groups as directed by the Lead Teacher
• Assist children with any problems or follow-up work
• Manage and supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is working with children or absent
• Share responsibility for the safety and well-being of the children at all times
• Maintain the care and condition of classroom materials and environment

Qualifications

The Preprimary Assistant Teacher should have a high school diploma and at least two years of experience in a preschool environment. Montessori experience is highly desired. The candidate must be able to physically assist children, including occasional lifting, in the classroom and playground.
