Job summary

Amazon's 1P retail pricing systems rely on rigorous economics to optimize promotions and long-term customer value. We are hiring a Sr. Economist to lead economic modeling at major events, and to design mechanisms that improve outcomes and reduce defects.

In this role you will bridge economic theory, econometrics, and production systems, operating across teams in Demand Science, Finance, and Product, with a focus on impact at VP+ levels and scalable safeguards for pricing decisions.

Qualifications

• PhD in economics or equivalent required.
• Experience in analytics and applied economics.
• Ability to develop and execute an analytic vision.
• Experience building statistical models with R, Python or STATA.
• Experience in industry, gov, consulting or academia.
• Familiarity with ML-adjacent causal methods and long-run outcome estimation.

Responsibilities

• Own economic modeling of pricing during major promotions.
• Develop econometric identification strategies to measure impact.
• Deliver analyses linking pricing to customer trust and long-run outcomes.
• Translate models into system-wide requirements for engineering safeguards.
• Collaborate with Demand Science, Finance, and Product teams.
