Job summary

The Jewish Board is seeking a BSFT Supervisor in the Preventive Service Department to support staff implementing the BSFT model for families with children aged 6–17 showing behavioral issues. Services are delivered in home and community settings; supervision, training and program coordination are core duties.

The role requires a Master’s in a related field, at least three years in Child Welfare or Family Therapy, and a willingness to work a hybrid schedule with travel within NYC.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy or a related subject area.
A minimum of three years of related experience in Child Welfare and/or Family Therapy.
Bilingual/Bicultural preferred.

Responsibilities

Provides regularly scheduled weekly supervision to clinical/case planning staff members.
Evaluates appropriateness of service plans (FASPs) and approves these based upon safety/risk concerns.
Facilitates weekly clinical case conferences and Family Team Conferences.
Completes job performance evaluations and provides professional development support.
May supervise student interns.
Responsible for intake on new referrals.
Enter monthly supervisory notes in CNNX for CWS and in the case record for ADVPO cases.
Adhere to fidelity of the BSFT model and maintain documentation.
Work a hybrid schedule based on program needs.
Cover for Director in his/her absence.

Job description

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) Supervisor in the Preventive Service Department is to support staff in their implementation of the BSFT model with family with child(ren) between the ages of 6 to 17 years old who present with various behavioral problems, including school truancy, substance use, conduct problems, and delinquency. The Preventive Services Department provides child welfare services using Evidence Based models to ensure that families are able to provide safe environments for their children, keep children safe in their homes and reduce the need for foster care. Prevention is an essential part of the child welfare continuum and requires a commitment to the wellbeing of all members of a client family. All services are provided in a family’s home and community.

PURPOSE

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Social Worker Supervisor has full responsibility for the on-going clinical guidance of the clinical/case planner staff members. The Supervisor also provides on-going training and supervision to the clinical staff. The Supervisor may be called upon to perform any of the line functions normally performed by a social worker/case planner and is expected to be fully proficient in those areas. The Supervisor is familiar with all Preventive Service and Child Welfare Standards and functions as an internal resource on such matters.

KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provides regularly scheduled weekly supervision to all clinical/case planning staff members.
Evaluates appropriateness of service plans (FASPs) and approves these based upon an understanding of any safety/risk concerns in the family and the service needs of the children and parents.
Facilitates weekly clinical case conference as well as Family Team Conferences
Completes job performance evaluations and provides professional development support on a regular basis.
May supervise student interns.
Responsible for intake on new referrals.
Provides frequent and appropriate feedback to program stakeholders including ACS Child Protection
Understand ACS/OCFS electronic systems including PROMIS and CNNX
Provides all necessary notes, progress notes, other paperwork as required by ACS and JBFCS including entering monthly supervisory notes in CNNX for CWS cases and in the case record for ADVPO cases.
Adhere to the fidelity of the model. Work within the model’s structure, regarding length of treatment, case contacts, interventions, supervision, and documentation.
Entering documentation in the OCFS and ACS Database System (PROMIS and CNNX)
Collaborate with child welfare and follow ACS guidelines for preventive services, in particular the safety and risk aspects.
Participate in all BSFT MODEL training, supervision and consultation activities
Work a hybrid schedule based on program needs
Comfortable with group supervision and commitment to work on professional development goals to improve adherence
Work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of families
Outreach to generate referrals for program
Work with a team to meet client, program, and division needs
Additional tasks as assigned
Cover for Director in his/her absence

CORE COMPETENCIES

Basic social work knowledge and understanding of stages of change
Ability to provide in home therapy and child welfare services
Ability to establish a strong therapeutic relationship with families.
Understanding of the use of family therapy principals to provide services
Understanding of early childhood development and related theories and models of practice
Strong Assessment skills to evaluate dynamics and interactions within the family
Ability to Implement strategies to improve family communication and support

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIRED

Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Creative Arts Therapy or a related subject area.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED/LANGUAGE PREFERENCE

A minimum of three years of related experience in Child Welfare and/or Family Therapy.
Specialized experience with specific client population or specialty (domestic violence, substance abuse, community outreach, etc.) is preferred.
Bilingual/Bicultural preferred

COMPUTER SKILLS REQUIRED

Knowledge of Microsoft office required
Knowledge and experience with the Connections system preferred

VISUAL AND MANUAL DEXIERITY

Be able to read documents for analytical purposes such as computer information, software, computer graphic design programs, etc.
Limited applications of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL EFFORT

To perform the essential functions of this job the candidate must be able to travel within New York City carrying equipment such as a notebook, forms, laptop, mobile hotspot and cell phone weighing up to approximately 10 pounds.
Risks/hazards associated with the position are those which may be encountered travelling around New York City and interfacing with clients experiencing an acute mental health crisis or serious emotional disturbance.
Position is currently hybrid but can become 100% in person based on program need.
