Job summary

Vivent Health is recruiting for a Prevention Specialist to provide confidential HIV, HCV, and STI testing and counselling within a harm-reduction framework. You will develop CTR sites, deliver education materials, and connect clients to PrEP, housing, and employment services as needed.

Travel within the service area is required. Strong communication skills and experience with diverse populations are essential, with HIV/PrEP knowledge highly valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with HIV/AIDS, PrEP, and AODA issues.
  • Ability to travel within service area.
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable discussing sexuality and gender.
  • HIV Prevention Certified Provider preferred; CHES certification a plus.
  • Experience presenting to groups.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct confidential HIV, HCV, syphilis, and STI testing and counselling.
  • Establish and implement CTR sites for priority populations.
  • Distribute education materials and safer sex supplies.
  • Provide one-on-one education and referrals for internal/external services.
  • Perform outreach to bars, barber shops, treatment centers, and venues frequented by priority populations.
  • Plan and participate in community events (e.g., Pride Fest).
  • Document services using internal data systems and assist with grant reporting.
  • Adhere to all agency policies and perform additional duties as needed.

The Prevention Specialistis responsible for providing anonymous and confidential testing for HIV, Hepatitis C (HCV), syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infections (STI). We aim to ensure everyone feels comfortable seeking counselling and testing services. You will have the opportunity to provide prevention education services, engage in syringe access programming (where applicable), and work with priority populations such as gay/bisexual/same-gender loving cisgender men, people of trans experience, and people who inject drugs (PWID). By offering these services, we hope to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment using harm reduction strategies.

  • Conduct confidential and anonymous HIV, HCV, syphilis, and STI testing (where applicable), counselling, and referral (CTR) in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Establish and implement CTR sites for priority populations.
  • Distribute approved education materials, safer sex materials, and/or safer injection supplies.
  • Conduct one-on-one educational sessions and assessments with clients, including referrals for internal and external services (e.g., pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), treatment, housing, and employment).
  • Perform regular outreach to bars, barber shops, treatment and recovery centers, and other venues frequented by priority populations.
  • Plan and participate in community events, such as Pride Fest, that engage priority populations.
  • Document all services and activities utilizing established internal data systems and develop public and private grant reports as required. Regularly report to the supervisor on all activities through biweekly personal management interviews (PMI).
  • Implement special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Required and preferred knowledge and experiences to succeed.

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED.
  • Leadership:
    • None
  • Work Experience:
    • Knowledge and/or experience working with HIV/AIDS, PrEP, and alcohol and other drug (AODA) issues.
    • Experience presenting to small and/or large groups.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows, and Databases.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • HIV Prevention Certified Provider, preferred.
    • Community Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification, is a plus.
    • For positions that require driving a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license, auto insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Additional Requirements/Soft Skills:
    • Must be willing and able to travel within and throughout the service delivery area.
    • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the HIV/AIDS patient population and/or an eagerness to learn about this community.
    • Understanding of and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, PrEP, and alcohol and other drug (AODA) issues.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills and a strong comfort level in discussing issues of sexuality, orientation, gender, and sex.
    • Ability to complete work assignments with minimal supervision, thoroughness, and efficiency.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Dependability and punctuality.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

HIV experience in a not-for-profit environment.

Pay Rate Range:

Starting at $24.00/hourly (Depending on Experience)

The final salary will be determined based on factors such as market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications. Please note that it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range.
