Family Service League is seeking a full-time Prevention Specialist for the Prevention Resource Center in Bay Shore, NY. You will develop new community coalitions to reduce underage drinking and substance abuse, and provide training and technical assistance to coalitions and community partners.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, or a related field, plus at least six months of community-level experience and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.
• At least six months of relevant experience at the community level.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Valid and clean NYS Driver's License.
• Occasional out-of-state and/or overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development of new community coalitions to prevent underage drinking and substance abuse.
• Attend and facilitate coalition meetings.
• Initiate or facilitate five activities quarterly which will aid in recruitment of stakeholders for coalition capacity building.
• Develop and launch public information and social media campaigns to educate, promote and foster community health and wellness initiatives.
• Collaborate with existing treatment and prevention providers and community leaders to address substance abuse in coalition communities.
• Provide training and technical assistance in planning and implementing environmental strategies.
• Develop needs assessments, an action plan, a logic model and communication plans for coalitions.
• All other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY:

Family Service League is seeking a full-time Instructor for our Prevention Resource Center in Bay Shore. The Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing new community substance abuse prevention coalitions. Responsibilities will include training and technical assistance services to community-based organizations, community champions and coalition members to reduce the impact of alcohol and drug use and abuse throughout Nassau and Suffolk communities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the development of new community coalitions to prevent underage drinking and substance abuse.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, or related field.

At least six months of relevant experience at the community level required.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.

Valid and clean NYS Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be available for occasional out-of-state and/or overnight travel for conferences.
