Job summary

Oswego Community Unit School District 308 is seeking a Preventative Maintenance Technician to support safe, functional school facilities. The role involves skilled and semi-skilled tasks across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related systems under supervision of Operations leadership.

The ideal candidate has training in a skilled trade, can lift 50 pounds, and is able to work in conditions that may include the elements.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of maintenance methods, materials, and equipment for school facilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work under challenging conditions, including exposure to the elements, climbing ladders, or crawling in confined spaces.
  • Previous maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire and other building systems.
  • Conduct periodic maintenance inspections per schedule.
  • Monitor and respond to work orders promptly.
  • Assist with assembly and maintenance of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Keep work areas clean and report hazards.

COMPENSATION

$22.47Per Hour plus benefits.

*Please note that the hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

Hours:

10am-6:30pm

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Training in a skilled trade such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing sufficient to perform assigned duties and troubleshoot/diagnose system malfunctions
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of school district facilities
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in challenging conditions that may require exposure to the elements, climbing a ladder, or crawling in confined spaces
  • Alternatives to the above requirements as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Previous maintenance experience preferred
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

To provide for a safe and functional environment that is conduciveto learning by performing various skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of school buildings and grounds as directed by the Director and Assistant Director of Operations.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs general repair and maintenance tasks pertaining to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, burglar, and other building systems as assigned.
  • Conducts periodic maintenance inspections according to assigned schedule.
  • Monitors all work orders and responds to them in a timely manner, per District procedure.
  • Assists with the assembly and maintenance of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Ensures that equipment, work areas, and vehicles are neat, clean, and orderly; and promptly reports damange and/or hazards to the Director of Operations or designee.
  • Performs emergency repairs and cleaning as assigned.
  • Participates in snow removal efforts as assigned.
  • Utilizes safe work practices, and properly utilizes personal protective equipment when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
