Job summary

Sarasota County is seeking a Pretrial Services Caseworker II for the Intake Unit on the day shift. The role involves pretrial investigations, case management, and counseling and social service referrals for the Sarasota County Government Pretrial Services Program; weekend and holiday work is required to support a 24/7 operation.

A Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, counseling, social or behavioral science, or a related field is required.

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, counseling, social or behavioral science, or related field.

Responsibilities

Interview defendants concerning demographics and community ties; verify defendant information; and conduct victim interviews.
Prepare local criminal histories as well as Florida and National criminal histories.
Conduct mental health and substance abuse assessments.
Comply, organize, and maintain daily records.
Update the case management system.
Instruct clients on matters regarding the conditions of pretrial release and any restrictions or assigned programs.
Write reports for the Court for First Appearances; and attend First Appearance and other court hearings.
Effective and concise written and oral communication.
Knowledge of investigative and fact-gathering and screening techniques.
Ability to observe, interpret, assess, and record behavioral events.
Ability to organize and prioritize work.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others and foster teamwork.
Ability to take effective action and exercise sound judgment in emergencies or crises.
Ability to interact with individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
