Job summary

Jefferson County is seeking a Pretrial Officer to support the Justice Services Division. You will interview detainees, verify histories, prepare reports, and recommend pretrial release decisions to Courts, serving as an Officer of the Court.

The role operates in a 24/7 unit, primarily at the Jefferson County Detention Facility, with limited hybrid and remote options. The scheduled overnight shift runs Thursday through Sunday from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice, behavioral sciences or related field.
One year of experience in criminal justice, social work, customer service, or related field.
CJIS/security awareness and ability to pass background checks may be required.

Responsibilities

Organize, facilitate and attend detainees' first court appearance and inform detainees of hearing process.
Compile and verify information, prepare detailed detainee reports including residence, family ties, and finances.
Interview detainees to determine pretrial release suitability and likelihood of future appearances.
Collect and review documents to determine details of alleged offenses and provide originals to the court.
Enter data and utilize law enforcement databases to research detainees’ histories and status.
Notify agencies and individuals regarding detainees’ status and bond conditions.
Review post-advisement status and submit reports to authorize release.
Other duties as assigned.
