Job summary

The Jefferson County Justice Services Division is seeking a Pretrial Officer to support the pretrial services unit in a jail setting. You will interview detainees, verify histories, and assist courts with release recommendations.

The role features a 4-day, 10-hour overnight shift (Thu-Sun, 8:00pm–6:00am) with limited hybrid/remote options. A bachelor’s degree and one year of related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences or related field.
• One year of experience in criminal justice, social work, customer service, or related field.
• CJIS background checks and requirements will be completed.
• Strong customer service and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to work a 4-day, 10-hour shift overnight schedule.

Responsibilities

• Organize and attend detainees' first court appearance and report outcomes.
• Compile detailed detainee status reports including residence, work, finances and history.
• Interview detainees to assess release suitability and monitor court obligations.
• Maintain documentation and submit reports to judicial officers and agencies.
• Operate data systems to query records and track case progress.
