Job summary

Athens Services in Los Angeles, CA seeks porters/pressure washers to perform waste collection, pressure washing, and related duties in a fast-paced environment. You will operate vehicles, load waste safely, and deliver professional customer service while following safety rules.

Weekend hours and shift flexibility are common. Responsibilities include cleaning sites, communicating with dispatch and supervisors, and adhering to routes and schedules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to operate pressure washing equipment safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist in picking up and transporting waste safely, according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations.
• Manual cleaning includes sweeping, picking up litter, pressure washing, graffiti removal, backpack blowers, bus stop maintenance, bulky pick-up and disposal.
• Pickup specified waste from customer sites scheduled for the day.
• Provide highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily.
• Communicate issues to Operations Manager, Route Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution.
• Ensure waste, wastewater, supplies, and equipment are secured prior to operating vehicle on public highway.
• Respect the property of all customers and maintain cleanliness of trucks and equipment.
• Work safely to prevent injury during loading/unloading.

Summary

All porters/pressure washers employed by GI Services are responsible for all assigned waste collection and pressure washing. It is expected that every porter/pressure washer employee will conduct his/her self in a professional manner at all times and perform all duties as assigned in a safe manner. The primary duty of all porters/pressure washers personnel is to perform manual cleaning assignments, operate pressure washing equipment and related company vehicle. Porters/pressure washers are responsible for the collection and hand loading of commercial, residential, city waste and the pressure washing of surfaces identified in the scope of work. Our porters/pressure washers must also be able to communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, the general public and GI Services Operations Managers.

Job Description

• Manual cleaning will include, but not limited to, sweeping, picking up litter, pressure washing, graffiti removal, backpack blowers, bus stop maintenance, bulky pick-up and disposal.
• Pick up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day.

• Communicating any issues to Operations Manager, Route Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution. This includes, but is not limited to re-routes, adjustments in container sizes, training, etc.
• Ensure waste, waste water, supplies, and material handling equipment is secured prior to operating vehicle on public highway.
• Respects the property of all residential, commercial, and city customers.
• Responsible for cleaning the inside and exterior of the trucks, and support equipment on a daily basis and reports any observed maintenance problems.
• Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while loading and unloading vehicle.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Class C Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to operate pressure washing equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to effectively troubleshoot and identify issues and complete in a safe timely manner.
• Attention to detail to ensure thorough cleaning.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to adhere to route schedules and assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual English / Spanish
• Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, parking lot maintenance or transportation industry.
