Iowa Aluminum Inc. is seeking an Extrusion Saw Operator to responsibly operate and maintain the saw in our extrusion line, ensuring precise cuts to specified lengths and profiles while upholding safety and quality standards.

You will perform daily PM checks, verify orders against work orders, inspect finished pieces for defects, and collaborate with press operators and quality technicians to keep production flowing efficiently.

  • Set up guides and saw stops per cutting specifications and monitor alignment.
  • Collaborate with press operators and quality technicians to ensure smooth production.
  • Manage scrap and track scrap pieces.

Job description

Position Overview:The Extrusion Saw Operator at Iowa Aluminum is responsible for operating and maintaining the saw equipment used in the extrusion process. This role ensures the precise cutting of extruded metal profiles according to specified lengths and profiles, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.Key Responsibilities:1. Saw Operation and Maintenance:• Operate the saw in an effective and cost-efficient manner while upholding quality and safety standards.• Perform the required preventive maintenance (PM) checks on the saw daily to ensure operational efficiency.2. Quality Control and Reporting:• Verify order lengths and die profiles against work orders before operations.• Conduct thorough inspections of materials for any defects or imperfections post-cut.• Identify and scrap any defective metal to maintain quality standards.• Responsible for reporting any equipment malfunctions to maintenance staff.• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support a safe and efficient production environment.3. Equipment Setup and Monitoring:• Accurately position guides and adjust saw stops according to cutting specifications. Continuously monitoring of saw cut position.• Regularly check and maintain saw blades, lubrication systems, chip collectors.4. Material Handling and Stacking:• Oversee the stacking equipment to ensure materials are properly aligned and stored in racks according to weight and balance standards.• Develop and implement rack setups that protect materials from damage during processing.Working Environment Notice:This position is based in a manufacturing plant environment. Employees may be exposed to levels of noise, dust, andpotential hazards associated with operating heavy machinery and metalworking. Appropriate safety measures and protectivegear are provided to ensure employee safety.5. Training and Safety:• Adhere to all safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) while operating machinery.• Participate in safety and job training sessions as required.• Adhere to all company safety policies, practices, and procedures.6. Scrap Management:• Manage scrap materials by cutdown and disposing of scrap.• Keep accurate track of aluminum pieces scrapped at the press finish saw.7. Team Collaboration:• Actively collaborate with the press operators, quality technicians, and stretcher operators to ensure a cohesive production process.• Support team efforts in troubleshooting and problem-solving to enhance overall operational efficiency.• Assist with log loading, scrap dumping, tooling changes, and sample cutting during downtime.• Provide training and assistance to new team members or operators as needed.Qualifications:-Mechanical Proficiency: Strong mechanical skills and experience operating precision machinery.-Quality Assurance: Excellent attention to detail and a firm commitment to quality.-Team Collaboration: Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.-Physical Requirements: Physical ability to manage heavy materials and stand for extended periods. Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching.-Attendance: Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
