Job summary

North Shore Steel is seeking a reliable Press Helper to join our Houston fabrication team. You will assist Press Brake Operators with material preparation, setup, and quality checks while maintaining a safe, organized work area.

This role offers hands-on learning in metal fabrication and potential growth into a Press Brake Operator position. You will work a day shift starting at 6 a.m., Monday through Friday, with additional weekend shifts as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist Press Brake Operators with daily production activities.
• Load, unload, stage, and move raw materials and finished products safely.
• Verify material grades, sizes, thicknesses, and quantities against work orders and production documentation.
• Assist with machine setup activities, tooling changes, and production preparation.
• Measure parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other devices to verify specifications.
• Support quality inspections and communicate any concerns to the operator or supervisor.
• Remove finished parts from the machine and prepare them for the next operation or shipment.
• Assist with overhead crane operations and material movement when trained and authorized.
• Maintain production flow by ensuring operators have materials, tooling, and support to meet schedules.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE; keep work area clean and organized.
• Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

General Description

This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and serves as a key support role within the Press Brake department. The Press Helper assists Press Brake Operators with material preparation, machine setup activities, part handling, quality checks, and production support to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate manufacturing operations.

Primary Duties

• Assist Press Brake Operators with daily production activities.
• Load, unload, stage, and move raw materials and finished products safely throughout the work area.
• Verify material grades, sizes, thicknesses, and quantities against work orders and production documentation.
• Assist with machine setup activities, tooling changes, and production preparation.
• Measure parts using tape measures, squares, calipers, and other measuring devices to verify conformance to specifications.
• Support quality inspections and communicate any concerns to the Press Brake Operator or Supervisor.
• Remove finished parts from the machine and prepare them for the next operation or shipment.
• Assist with overhead crane operations and material movement when properly trained and authorized.
• Maintain production flow by ensuring operators have the materials, tooling, and support needed to meet production schedules.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Assist with routine equipment cleaning and basic preventive maintenance activities.
• Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
