Job description

Are We the Place for You?
Since 1947, BFCU has provided compassionate, high-touch service to those who protect and serve. With nearly $450 million in assets, a strong capital position (12.43% net worth), and a loyal Field of Membership, the credit union is poised for growth and evolution—including a rebranding and market expansion effort to better reflect its broadened reach and deepen its presence across the Commonwealth.

BFCU is committed to being visible in the lives of its members, from local golf tournaments and fundraisers to critical financial guidance and education. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who wants to blend strategic growth with deep-rooted community impact.

Boston offers a vibrant mix of historic charm and modern amenities—home to world-class universities, sports teams, cultural institutions, coastal beauty, and one of the country’s oldest fire departments. Living here means exploring the Freedom Trail, cheering at Fenway Park, savoring diverse cuisine, and walking along the Charles River. Serving BFCU means being part of a community that values service, resilience, and heart.

Our Board of Directors represents the membership we serve. They bring dedication to making a difference through the credit union along with knowledge of what it takes to succeed in serving the needs of first responders. They are committed to finding a President/CEO who will partner in this commitment, adding guidance to the strategy and delivering value to our members.

Is This the Career for You?
Being the President/CEO of Boston Firefighters’ Credit Union is more than a career, it is a calling. This opportunity to serve first responders across the state of Massachusetts will allow a visionary and energetic individual to make a difference. A leader who is motivated by challenge and excited to leverage opportunities for growth will thrive as we build relationships across the state with police, fire, EMT, and all those who have been called to serve in times of emergency.

As President/CEO, you’ll lead a high-performing team of nearly 50 dedicated employees and work in partnership with an engaged, mission-focused Board of Directors. You’ll guide the strategic vision of the credit union—fostering innovation, mentorship, financial soundness, and digital transformation to enhance member experience and build authentic relationships with members, staff, and stakeholders across the state.

BFCU’s next leader will be:

  • A visionary thinker who sees opportunity in challenge, growth in community, and embraces innovation to lead change.
  • A collaborative coach who empowers their team, leads cultural evolution, and builds capacity from within.
  • A charismatic connector who thrives in relationship-driven environments.
  • A financial steward with strategic acumen in financial services—able to oversee financial health in partnership with the CFO—preferably with credit union experience.
  • A community ambassador passionate about uplifting first responders and engaging with them authentically.

Experience working with first responder communities is not required—but a genuine respect and desire to serve them is essential.
