Qualifications

  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience in the insurance industry or related lines.
  • Advanced degree such as a Master’s in Accounting, Finance or MBA; Juris Doctor (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of mutual insurance model, governance and policyholder relationships
  • Proven track record delivering profitable growth while managing underwriting risk
  • Hands-on experience with state insurance departments, regulatory compliance and external stakeholders
  • Extensive knowledge in insurance financials, actuarial models, reserving, reinsurance strategies
  • Strong interpersonal skills to influence diverse stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker capable of leading change and building high-performing teams

Job Description: A leading organization specializing in professional liability insurance is seeking a strategic and experienced President and CEO to lead its next phase of growth and innovation. The company provides tailored insurance solutions with a strong focus on policyholder service, operational excellence and sustainable financial strength. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with extensive insurance experience, particularly in the mutual insurance model, capable of balancing growth with underwriting discipline and fostering a collaborative organizational culture. This role requires building and maintaining high-level relationships with regulators, reinsurance partners, industry leaders, and the community while guiding the organization through market shifts and technological advancements. The President and CEO will translate the board’s strategic priorities into actionable goals, ensuring long-term relevance, profitability and operational excellence. This is a retained search.

Responsibilities:
  • Set and execute the organization’s strategic plan, translating board priorities into measurable growth initiatives and ensuring sustainable development.
  • Maintain the organization’s financial strength by overseeing budgeting, forecasting, performance monitoring and enterprise risk management.
  • Manage reinsurance relationships and implement financial discipline across the enterprise to optimize profitability and stability.
  • Protect underwriting standards while innovating through modern tools, analytics, distribution channels and enhancing member experience.
  • Lead and align the operations of subsidiaries to ensure consistent, exceptional service delivery to members.
  • Represent the company as the public face, fostering durable relationships with policyholders, regulators, community leaders and industry partners.
  • Build a cohesive organizational culture while guiding change management initiatives and preserving core values amid evolving market conditions.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of senior leadership experience in the insurance industry, lawyers professional liability or related lines (preferred)
  • Advanced degree such as a Master’s in Accounting, Finance or MBA; Juris Doctor (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of the mutual insurance model, governance practices, and policyholder relationships
  • Proven track record of developing and executing strategies that deliver profitable growth while managing underwriting risk and maintaining organizational culture
  • Hands-on experience with state insurance departments, regulatory compliance and external stakeholder engagement
  • Extensive knowledge in insurance financials, actuarial models, reserving, reinsurance strategies, underwriting, rates and capital management
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust across diverse stakeholder groups, including the Board and external partners
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to lead change, foster a positive organizational culture and develop high-performing teams
