Job Description

The preschool teacher substitute provides a Christ-centered, biblically based environment for children birth through 5 years of age where all children receive a high-quality early childhood education while learning the Good News of Jesus Christ. Preschool Substitute Teachers support the approved curriculum goals, standards, learning objectives, and learning experiences that will contribute to the development of skills and academic achievement. The position is located at 5001 Newport Coast Dr. Irvine CA and is a part-time, as-needed role.

Mariners Church Preschool teachers are expected to:

• Provide a Christ-centered, warm, and accepting environment for all students of MCP
• Meet all Title 22 requirements as specified in the State of California’s Childcare General Handbook
• Support daily records, communicate with the administration team, and respond to program needs to ensure quality programming and environments
• Implement an engaging, age-appropriate emergent curriculum for children
• Support a developmentally appropriate program in both indoor and outdoor settings
• Maintain a classroom environment that allows each student to thrive, stimulates critical thinking through creative learning experiences, and complies with licensing requirements
• Support and supervise classroom behavior, demonstrate proper time management, and communicate concerns to the teaching team
• Display professional, positive, and spiritual behavior, adhering to policies and procedures

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods to supervise and interact with children during activities
• Capability to lift and carry infants and toddlers, supporting children weighing up to 40 pounds
• Flexibility to bend, stoop, and kneel to engage at the child's eye level
• Willingness to participate in and lead physical activities and outdoor play
• Ability to set up and arrange classroom furniture and materials, and perform routine cleaning tasks
• Readiness to respond quickly in emergencies, including lifting children, evacuating, or administering first aid
• Capacity to supervise outdoor activities, monitor safety, and participate in outdoor exercises
• Ability to observe and assess children’s health and well-being, recognizing signs of distress or illness
• Transition between standing and sitting positions as needed during activities

Qualifications

• Clear Live Scan and Criminal Background check
• Minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education/Child Development; AA or BA preferred
• Current CPR/First Aid certification
• Up-to-date immunizations including TB test, MMR, DTaP, and annual influenza vaccine
• Flexible hours; center open from 7 am to 6 pm
