CAPE of Evansville & Vanderburgh County Inc. seeks a Teacher Float to support Head Start classrooms across multiple sites in Evansville, IN. You will work with lead teachers to promote school readiness, safety, and nurturing environments for children.

This full-time contract position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) with preferred Associate’s/Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, plus experience in Head Start. CPR/First Aid and flexible classroom coverage are valuable assets.

Description

The Teacher Float provides classroom support across multiple Head Start classrooms and sites, ensuring children receive high-quality care and instruction. This position works collaboratively with lead and associate teachers to support school readiness goals, maintain a safe and nurturing environment, and foster positive relationships with children and families. The Teacher Float serves as a flexible team member, assisting with classroom activities, compliance tasks, and family engagement initiatives, while upholding program standards and regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field preferred.
• Previous experience in early childhood education or Head Start program preferred.
• Knowledge of school readiness and child development principles.
• Ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices and support social-emotional learning.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work flexibly across classrooms and sites as needed.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Physical ability to participate in classroom activities, including lifting, bending, and outdoor play supervision.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
