Job summary

Vertex Education in Phoenix is seeking a Preschool Teacher Assistant to work with the lead teacher in planning daily activities for young learners, supervise classroom routines, assist during meals, and provide one-on-one attention as needed.

You will help organize the classroom, support development of basic skills like numbers and colors, model positive behavior, and report observations to support each child’s progress; travel between campuses may be required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licensure or Certification: Food Handler’s Card/Certification, CPR and First Aid Certified, valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Background check: Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Experience: 6 months or more working in an Early Childcare setting.
  • Skills: Ability to interact positively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators; strong communication and organizational skills; flexibility in work schedule; professional appearance; collaboration with fellow teachers and staff; maintenance of a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position Overview

The Preschool Teacher Assistant will work with the lead teacher in planning daily activities for students, supervise them, assist during meals/snacks, and provide general one‑on‑one attention as needed. The assistant will also help organize the classroom and clean up and set up for the next day’s activities. Additionally, the assistant will interact with children, distribute snacks/meals, teach basic concepts such as numbers, colors, and shapes, and support the development of social skills. The assistant provides feedback to the lead teacher regarding students’ academic and social progress.

Essential Functions
  • Assist lead teachers in planning, developing, and implementing age‑appropriate curriculum.
  • Support lead teachers in devising and imparting lesson plans daily.
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments (reading stories, writing, language skills, numbers, alphabet, computer programs, etc.) to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials (art projects, computer use, language skills, etc.) to support classroom goals.
  • Monitor individuals or groups of students in various settings to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist students during lunchtime, toileting, and washing activities, and enforce cleanup activities by modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, work area, and files (clean/bleach tables, sign‑in/sign‑out logs, etc.) to ensure availability of items and meet mandated requirements.
  • Perform general clerical tasks (laminating, making posters, copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters) to help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
  • Create a comfortable and secure environment for young students with nurturing behavior.
  • Report observations and incidents related to specific students (accidents, conflicts, inappropriate behavior, rule violations, safety conditions, behavioral changes) to the appropriate instructional and administrative personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licensure or Certification: Food Handler’s Card/Certification, CPR and First Aid Certified, valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Background Checks

Candidate must pass a criminal history background check and obtain a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

Physical and Travel Requirements / Work Environment

Travel between campuses is required from time to time. The position requires lifting objects up to 25 pounds on occasion. The position may require long periods of sitting, speaking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and concentration. Local and in‑state travel is required.
