Mid-Island Y JCC in Syosset, NY is hiring a Teacher Assistant Floater to join the inaugural team of a new special needs preschool. The role supports the lead teacher with IEP implementation, small group activities, and nurturing development in preschool children with diverse needs.

The position requires a High School Diploma (associate degree or coursework in early childhood/special education is a plus), strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children, especially those with special needs.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Physical ability to assist children and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong communication and collaboration with teaching staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing IEPs for students with developmental, physical, and/or learning disabilities.
• Support students in daily activities, including small group lessons, play-based learning, and social development.
• Provide one-to-one or small group assistance to help students meet learning goals.
• Maintain classroom organization and safety; prepare materials.
• Monitor and document student progress and share observations with the lead teacher.
• Communicate effectively with teachers and staff.
• Float between classrooms to support various learning needs as required.
