Job summary

The Nativity School, part of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego, is looking for a full-time Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher and supervise children in a licensed preschool setting in Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

You will assist with curriculum, supervise outdoor activities, prepare daily materials, and provide care during lunch and rest times. This role requires patience, enthusiasm, and teamwork in a nurturing Catholic environment.

Qualifications

• Must have completed 12 ECE units or 6 ECE units completed and enrolled in 6 ECE units (transcripts requested).
• Previous experience in a licensed preschool or early development center preferred.
• Live Scan Fingerprint and CMG Background Clearance.
• TB test cleared to work in a licensed child care facility.
• Proof of MMR and D-TAP vaccines.
• Passionate about working with young children and growing as an educator.
• Team player, positive attitude and enthusiasm for the work.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with school curriculum.
• Oversee outdoor activities ensuring a safe environment for the children at all times.
• Assist with rest time setup, take down and supervision.
• Prepare materials and supplies for daily classroom activities and set up of equipment.
• Cover for teacher lunches and breaks.
• Provide children with support and care during lunchtime and rest time.
• Aftercare coverage if needed.
• Respect and honor the needs of individual children with consideration for their interests, special needs, talents, and learning pace.
• Understand children in relation to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
• Sit on the floor, kneel or crouch to assist children’s needs.
• Be enthusiastic, patient and nurturing.
• Treat children with dignity and respect.
• Share housekeeping responsibilities after children depart or are with another teacher.
• Participate in training programs and professional growth.

Pay Rate: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with school curriculum

• Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff after the children have either departed or are under the supervision of another teacher

Religious Qualifications

• Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred).
• Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy.

Physical Requirements

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the assistant teacher must:

• Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating.
• Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
• Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces.
• Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending.
• Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class.
• Assist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
