Principal Duties and Responsibilities
BASIC FUNCTION: Teacher’s assistant for Preschool programs (tadpoles to 5 years old).
Hours: 24 hours per week (maximum), flexible for events (e.g., festivals, parent nights). Probation period: three months. Time off: 2.5 paid sick absences, no paid vacation. Unpaid holidays: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. A valid driver’s license is required.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage students in care.
- Accept direction from supervising teacher.
- Help direct volunteers.
- Work cooperatively as a team with all preschool staff and children.
- Maintain flexibility in adapting to assignments or changes.
- Maintain attendance records each day.
- Accept other duties as required.
- Check backpacks each morning and pack backpacks at dismissal if needed.
- Acquire appropriate in-service hours each year.
- Encourage developmentally appropriate independence and choice-making.
- Recognize and encourage pro-social behaviors such as cooperation, helping, turn‑taking, and using words to solve problems.
- Keep information about children, families, and coworkers confidential.
- Prepare materials for needed projects.
- Assist in the development and execution of the three parent programs each year.
- Ensure students are supervised and within adult/child ratio at all times.
- Report all suspected cases of child abuse or neglect.
- Assist in assessment of each student three times a year.
- Implement a safe curb‑side arrival and dismissal each day.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Administrative skills: attend any school function, staff meetings, check mailboxes and dry-erase board each morning, clock hours daily, total hours monthly by the 22nd, report all ouch reports to the Director and file copies.
- Communication skills: friendly and courteous to parents while allowing teacher responsibility for communication of concerns; share information appropriately with the director; participate in annual evaluation/review.
- Work Environment: maintain hygienic and hazard‑free environment, report repairs to the Director; model good hygiene and hand washing; encourage good eating habits and table manners during snack time; vacuum and sweep room after dismissal and clean bathrooms if applicable.
Education and Experience
- Qualifications: Roman Catholic, love God, love others, love self; active faith in God and respect all who enter.
- Experience: early child development related fields preferred.
Employment Type & Classification
Permanent part‑time. Classification: Non‑Exempt.
