Job summary

LifeFamily Learning Center in Austin, TX is seeking a Lead/Assistant Teacher to support children aged 6 weeks to 5 years through age-appropriate lesson plans and positive behavior reinforcement. The role emphasizes compassionate care, safety, and Christian-based instruction.

You will open/close, interact with families, and ensure a clean, well-organized classroom while adhering to state regulations and center policies. Training and ongoing collaboration with staff are provided.

Qualifications

  • 18 years or older.
  • 2+ years of childcare experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Pass Fingerpriting and Background Check.
  • CPR, First Aid Certified.
  • Be available to work during the hours of Monday-Friday 7:00am-6:00pm.
  • We are seeking teachers with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and passion for biblical teachings.

Responsibilities

  • Opening/Closing duties, depending on schedule.
  • Meet children and families cordially and address parent concerns.
  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom.
  • Be familiar with Texas Rising Star standards.
  • Create and post age-appropriate lesson plans weekly/bi-weekly.
  • Prepare daily activities and supervise classroom.
  • Guide and discipline children positively to support development.
  • Perform disinfecting and hygiene steps as posted.
  • Supervise restroom breaks, naptime, transitions, and arrival/departure.
  • Maintain forms: lesson plans, incident/illness reports, medicine permissions, and child assessments.
  • Keep track of children counts and maintain ratios.
  • Engage with children and facilitate learning.
  • Monitor supplies and inform Director as needed.
  • Provide daily reports to parents and discuss information professionally.
  • Stay with children at pick-up times; late fee policy applies.
  • Report suspected child abuse/neglect to authorities.
  • Limit cell phone use; use floater if needed.
  • Perform fire and storm drills as required by state laws.
  • Coordinate with Assistant Teachers and Floaters.

Job Description:

The Lead/Asst Teacher is responsible for helping children prepare for school both academically and socially by using age-appropriate lesson plans, selecting effective developmental materials for the classroom, and utilizing positive behavior reinforcement. Must be willing and able to work with children 6 weeks-5 years old

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Opening/Closing duties, depending on schedule
  • Meet children and families cordially, addressing any parent concerns as they arrive
  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom
  • Be familiar with Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards and Accreditation Criteria for Texas Rising Star
  • Create lesson plans with developmentally appropriate practices for your age group and post them weekly or bi-weekly
  • Prepare activities throughout the day
  • Guide and discipline children according to center’s policies, in a positive and encouraging way, promoting their self-esteem, and supporting their healthy social-emotional development
  • Perform disinfecting & hygiene steps as posted
  • Supervise children during restroom breaks, naptime (if applicable), during transitions, and during arrival/departure
  • Be familiar with and able to fill out all forms used in the classroom: lesson plans, incident and illness reports, permission to administer medicine, and children assessment
  • Keep accurate count of children and relay that information at any requested time, ensuring ratios are maintained
  • Always engage with children, encouraging and facilitating their learning
  • Keep track of supplies needed for the room and inform Director
  • Keep track of supplies needed for each child and inform parents as needed
  • Provide a daily individual report to parents
  • Meet with parents and discuss child information in a professional manner
  • Maintain a good rapport with families, responding to their inquiries and requests timely, and reporting or consulting with Director as needed
  • Stay with children at pick-up times if parents are running late – a fee of $1 per minute late might be charged and should be paid in cash by the parent to the teacher in charge
  • Report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect as mandated by Child Protective Service
  • Limit the use of cell phones to a minimum or in case of emergency, require a floater to supervise the room to answer call
  • Perform fire and storm drills as required by state laws
  • Coordinate and help supervise Assistant Teachers and Floaters working in the classroom
