Job summary

City of Portland is seeking candidates for the Recreation Associate (Preschool Assistant) pool to support preschool classrooms with children ages 3-5. Roles include leading activities, supervising daily routines, and promoting social-emotional growth.

Flexible hours, with a mix of days and possible evening or weekend work; positions may be at different Community Centers. Entry pay starts around the base classroom rate with premium differences for Preschool specialty work.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead activities like arts, crafts, music, science, games, and sports.
• Support the development of preschoolers' physical, social, and cognitive skills.
• Provide toileting and diaper changing support.
• Support nap times and meals, with food handler certification as required.
• Support dual language learners and children with disabilities or differences.
• Maintain a safe environment and respond to challenging behaviors in a kind way.
• Maintain program records and represent Portland Parks & Recreation positively.
• Work with children individually and in groups under supervision.
• Provide coaching for social-emotional development and conflict resolution.
