Position Summary:

SAU #53 is seeking a knowledgeable, organized and compassionate registered nurse to provide direct nursing care, specialized medical case management, and health supervision for preschool-aged children (ages 3–5), this could include students with complex health, dietary, and special education needs. The Preschool Nurse ensures a safe, healthy, and medically compliant environment conducive to early childhood development and learning.

Key Responsibilities:
Direct Student Health Care & Case Management
  • Provide direct clinical assessment, first aid, emergency response, and nursing care for acute injuries and illnesses in preschool children.
  • Manage individual healthcare needs for students with specialized health conditions, including drafting, maintaining, and updating Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
  • Coordinate case management and care plans for students requiring specialized nutrition/feeding support (e.g., liquid thickeners, safe food/beverage preparation, PediSure, allergy management).
Medication Administration & Medical Procedures
  • Administer daily prescription and emergency medications in strict accordance with state board regulations, physician orders, and district policies.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential health and medication administration records.
  • Collaborate actively with the Preschool Coordinator, Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists (OT), Physical Therapists (PT), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and Paraprofessionals to support student IEP and 504 health accommodations.
  • Serve as a primary health liaison between families, pediatricians, specialized medical providers, and school staff to ensure seamless support and family guidance.
Health Screening, Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain comprehensive student health records, including state-mandated immunization tracking, physical exam records, and Child Find health screenings.
  • Ensure compliance with state early childhood health standards, local board policies, and confidentiality mandates (FERPA/HIPAA).
  • Maintain health clinic supplies, specialized medical equipment, and ensure emergency response tools (e.g., AEDs, first aid kits) are inspected and up-to-date.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) or RN degree required.
  • Licensure: Valid, Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Hampshire.
  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of nursing experience; pediatric, early childhood, or school nursing experience preferred.
