Job description

Lead teachers for Early Childhood and Head Start programs are responsible for planning and implementing learning experiences that promote the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children within a safe, healthy learning environment. They involve families in the child's learning process and foster strong relationships between children and their families.

Their duties include:

1. Using appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline techniques.
2. Modeling positive behavior.
3. Instructing and supervising children in classroom activities.
4. Implementing age-appropriate activities aligned with Head Start standards and the creative curriculum.
5. Modeling family-style eating during meal times.
6. Monitoring children for safety and reporting any child abuse or neglect.
7. Maintaining documentation such as anecdotal notes and observations.
8. Administering screenings like Creative Curriculum, DECA, and DIAL-4, and making referrals as needed.
9. Planning and developing lesson plans with the assistant teacher, incorporating curriculum resources and training.
10. Preparing activities that support lesson plans and children's development.
11. Using process-oriented instruction that emphasizes learning over products.
12. Communicating daily routines, policies, and opportunities to parents.
13. Discussing observed incidents with parents and advocating for children's needs.
14. Completing required paperwork and maintaining accurate education folders.
15. Supporting volunteers and staff with classroom requirements and providing feedback for professional growth.
16. Collaborating closely with the site manager, assistant manager, and teaching team.

Requirements include:

• An Associate's degree in Early Childhood or related field with 9 credit hours in Early Childhood.
• One to three years of experience teaching children aged 3 to 5.
• The ability to lift/move up to 30 pounds and assist children with changing tables.

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 9 hours in ECE.
• Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
