Job summary

Asheville City Schools is seeking a Preschool Instructional Assistant to support teachers in an early childhood classroom at Asheville High School. The position is full-time for 10 months, with duties ranging from clerical tasks to direct student engagement and supervision.

The ideal candidate has at least a two-year college background in early childhood education, holds or is willing to obtain a CDA, and can pass background checks and medical requirements.

Qualifications

• At least a two-year college degree or 48 hours of college credit in EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION within the last 5 years.
• Two years of college required.
• Hold a CDA credential or be willing to obtain one if required by the program.
• Hold an AA degree in Early Childhood, or be willing to obtain one if required by the program.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Secure at least three positive employment/character references.
• Pass all medical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in following the teacher's plans and supervise children.
• Support large group activities and physical education tasks.
• Work with small groups and individuals to support learning.
• Prepare classroom spaces, arrange furniture, and display student work.
• Promote self-concept and positive behavior through praise and encouragement.
• Help with end-of-day routines, safety, and orderly closing of the classroom.
