Job summary

Oregon Child Development Coalition (OCDC) is hiring a Preschool Instructional Assistant to support teaching staff in maintaining a safe, healthy classroom and to supervise preschoolers on the floor and playground.

The role covers daily routines, learning centers, and story time, with emphasis on positive guidance and good communication with families. Training to meet state requirements will be provided and eligibility varies by location.

Qualifications

  • No prior education or experience is required for this position.
  • Within 4 months from date of hire, must meet Oregon Early Learning Division’s requirements for a preschool Teacher Aide II.
  • Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or equivalent credential supports eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Support teaching staff in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing preschool classroom environment.
  • Supervise preschool-age children in classrooms and on playgrounds using positive guidance techniques.
  • Assist with daily routines including toileting, dressing, meals, and transitions to and from the classroom.
  • Help implement daily classroom activities such as free play, story time, and learning centers.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Communicate respectfully with children, families, and staff.
  • Support dual language classroom activities, as applicable.
  • Provide classroom coverage to maintain child-to-teacher ratios during staff breaks or short absences.

Every role contributes to creating stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures for children across Oregon.Position Summary:Assists teaching staff with various duties in the preschool classrooms in accordance with grant standards, childcare licensing regulations, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), OCDC’s policies and procedures and other applicable standards. Helps to maintain a healthy and safe classroom environment. May provide coverage for child/teacher ratios when teaching staff must leave the classroom for breaks, meetings, and/or planning time.Essential Functions:• Support teaching staff in maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing preschool classroom environment• Supervise preschool‑age children in classrooms and on playgrounds using positive guidance techniques• Assist with daily routines, including toileting, dressing, meals, and transitions to and from the classroom• Help implement daily classroom activities such as free play, story time, and learning centers• Maintain classroom cleanliness, including disinfecting toys and furniture and replenishing supplies• Communicate respectfully and positively with children, families, and staff• Support dual language classroom activities, as applicable• Assist with basic record keeping and classroom documentation as assigned• Provide classroom coverage to maintain child‑to‑teacher ratios during staff breaks or short absences (as qualifications allow)• Maintain regular and reliable attendance• Perform other related duties as assignedEducation and Experience Requirements:No prior education or experience is required for this position.Preschool Instructional Assistant E -$17.00- $19.36 hourly ($19.17- $21.30 hourly in Metro locations)Within 4 months from date of hire, must meet Oregon Early Learning Division’s requirements for a preschool Teacher Aide II.Preschool Instructional Assistant CE -$18.47- $20.52 hourly ($22.27 hourly in Metro locations)Meets Oregon Early Learning Division’s requirements for a preschool Teacher.Preschool Instructional Assistant C-$19.58- $21.76 hourly ($22.67- $23.93 hourly in Metro locations)High School Diploma, GED, or Diploma de Educacion Secundaria ANDPreschool Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate; or1 year Oregon community college certificate (college certificate is equivalent to ORO step 8 in field) WITH training or coursework in early childhooddevelopment with a focus on development of preschool age childrenMetro locations include Washington County and Multnomah County sites.Placement within the range is determined by factors such as relevant experience, skills, certifications, and internal equity.Benefits:OCDC offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your health, financial well-being, and work–life balance.
