Job summary

The Learning Experience - Elgin is seeking a Preschool Cook to join our team and provide nutritious meals for preschool children. You will be responsible for preparing healthy dishes, monitoring allergies, and maintaining strict food safety standards in our center.

You will also collaborate with leadership to manage food purchasing and inventory, while delivering excellent service to families and children. This role requires flexibility to meet daily childcare needs.

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of cooking/food prep experience.
• Food handling certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook healthy meals for preschool children that meet nutritional requirements.
• Maintain and track food allergies for each child and communicate allergies daily with food deliveries.
• Follow food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures for proper storage.
• Collaborate with Center Leadership to purchase food and supplies and maintain inventory per local/state rules.
• Provide excellent customer service and a positive attitude toward parents and children; communicate effectively.
• Be flexible and adaptable to daily childcare center needs.

As a Preschool Cook with us, you'll play a key role in making a difference in the lives of children, their families, and communities by cooking daily nutritious meals.

You will:

• Prepare and cook healthy and delicious meals for preschool children that meet proper nutritional requirements.
• Maintain and track food allergies for each child in our center, ensuring their safety, and communicate any identified allergies to teachers daily with every food delivery.
• Follow proper food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures to ensure food is stored properly.
• Collaborate with the Center Leadership team to purchase all necessary food and supplies and keep inventory records as local and state agencies require.
• Provide excellent customer service and a positive attitude towards parents and children, listen, and communicate effectively.
• Be flexible and adaptable to the daily business needs of a childcare center.

If you have:

• A High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience in food preparation and cooking.
• A food handling certificate or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.
• The ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
