Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: No experience required; preferred experience working with children.
• Skills: Oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, computer and word-processing, customer service, critical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills, confidentiality, multitasking, crisis management, adherence to school district policies and Iowa laws, building and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to students in regular and special education classrooms, including adapting work, monitoring behavior, implementing health care plans, cafeteria/recess/bus assistance, crisis intervention, behavior management, specialized therapy programs, and maintaining proximity to students as needed.
• Assist with classroom activities, curriculum instruction delivery to individuals and small groups to ensure mastery of subjects.
• Assist teacher(s) with grading, attendance, instructional center tasks, material preparation, laminating, copying, filing.
• Mentor and support students with diverse abilities and disabilities.
• Supervise and monitor students during playground, lunchroom, field trips, passing periods, and classroom activities, ensuring safety and proximity.
• Assist injured or sick students to the health room.
• Cover classroom for short periods (up to 30 minutes) when teacher is absent.
• Assist with assessment testing and monitoring of student performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
